Murphy and the Lions rebounded in 1925, finishing with a 6-6 record. The Lions started out well with a four-game win streak, the longest streak ever at the time. Those wins came against West Texas A&M, Austin College (twice), and North Texas. A five-game losing streak followed however, including losses to Sam Houston State (twice), Stephen F. Austin (twice), and Howard Payne. The Lions got back on track with a 37-23 win over Howard Payne, and ended the season with a 1-1 split at West Texas A&M.
