J.P. Vinson
Dennis Vinzant became the tenth head coach of A&M-Commerce Lions Basketball in 1937. Though his first season was successful, the Lions struggled in conference play. The Lions split doubleheaders with East Central and Northwestern State (Louisiana), and impressed in a victory over Southwestern Kansas. The Cowboys of Oklahoma State wrangled the Lions pretty well in a 42-20 defeat, and the Lions couldn't quite turn it around in a game against Phillips (Oklahoma), which they lost 24-23. West Texas A&M and A&M
-Commerce again split their season series, and other notable results included wins over Sam Houston State (twice), Hardin-Simmons (four times), North Texas, and Stephen F. Austin; and a sweep of the Lions by Texas State, which hadn't happened in 14 seasons.
J.P. Vinson was the only Lion to earn individual notoriety, claiming a spot on the First Team All-LSC.
