NAIB Tournament |
Tied for First in the LSC
Head Coach: Dennis Vinzant (fifth season)
Overall Record: 74-37, 28-12 LSC
Vinzant re-set the record for longest tenured coach in A&M-Commerce Lion Basketball history in his fifth season, and despite their struggles in 1940, the Lions were glad Coach Vinzant stuck around for 1941. The season was shortened due to World War II, but A&M-Commerce still managed to win 10 games, and finish 6-2 in the LSC. The Lions swept Central Oklahoma, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas State, but couldn't beat North Texas in either of their matchups. The season concluded with another
tie for First Place in the conference, the university's fifth Lone Star Conference Men's Basketball Championship.
The Lions also advanced to the first round of the NAIB National tournament, though their opponent isn't recorded. This was just the second national postseason appearance in school history.
No Lions earned any individual awards in 1941.
