Tulley's most successful season at the helm came in 1947, when he led the Lions to a 19-4 finish (9-3 LSC). The Lions were quick out of the gate with a ten-game win streak, setting a new school record. The win streak included victories over East Texas Baptist (twice), Centenary (twice), Texas A&M, Midwestern State (twice), Central Oklahoma (twice), and Austin. Sam Houston State broke up the successive wins with a 59-56 defeat, but the Lions soon got back on track, winning their next seven. The Lions were
awarded their sixth LSC championship in 1947. The season closed with the third postseason appearance in Lion Basketball history, a first round loss to Texas Wesleyan in the NAIB District Playoffs.

Jake Carter led the team in made field goals (104) and made free throws (108). His shooting success helped him to also lead the Lions in total points (316) and points per game (12.64). No other stats were available for the 1947 season.

Carter's statistical prowess earned him consecutive spots on the First Team All-LSC, and Truitt Ingram also snagged a spot on the First Team All-LSC, his first time.
