Tied for Second in the Lone Star Conference
Head Coach: M.A. Smith (1st Season)
Overall Record: 13-9, 5-3 LSC

M.A. Smith became the twelfth head coach of A&M-Commerce Men's Basketball in 1950. His only year coaching the Lions was an interesting one. The team went through several peaks and valleys that season, including a three-game winning streak against Abilene Christian, Howard Payne, and Lamar that was immediately followed by a three-game losing streak against Southwest Missouri State, Bethany (Kansas), and Midwestern State. Thankfully the season ended on a positive note, a 5-1 finish that included victories o
ver Lamar, Sul Ross State (twice), Centenary, and Stephen F. Austin. The Lions finished tied for second place in the LSC.

Charles "Shorty" Whitten once again led the attack for A&M-Commerce, leading the Lions in made field goals (141), made free throws (81), assists (6), total points (363), and points per game (16.5). 1950 is the first season the Lions recorded any defensive stats, so Bynum Smith set the record for most rebounds in a season at 97.

No Lions earned any individual awards in 1950.
