While 1954 was Coach Rogers' greatest season at A&M-Commerce, 1955 was definitively his worst. The Lion won just 14 games, and finished 8-4 in the LSC, tying for second place in the conference. A&M-Commerce also missed the postseason for the first time in four years.

There were several peaks and valleys that the Lions had to negotiate in 1955, including a four-game losing streak to Gustavus Adolphus (Minnesota), Texas Southern, Rockhurst (Missouri), and Southwestern Missouri State. A&M-Commerce followed up this dismal performance with a four-game winning streak, including a sweep of A&M-Kingsville. Conference wins were the only thing that kept the Lions afloat in 1955, as they finished the season on a 7-5 run that included victories over Texas State (twice), Sam Houst
on State, Wayland Baptist, Lamar, and Sul Ross State (twice). The season concluded with victories over Louisiana Tech and Austin College.

The disappointing season did yield an individual award though. Bob Williams earned his first All-LSC award by being named to the Second Team All-LSC.
