Tied for sixth in the Lone Star Conference
Head Coach: Phil Andrews (1st Season)
Overall Record: 9-18, 3-11 LSC

Second Team All-LSC
Fred Williams

Lion alum Phil Andrews took over for Coach Pilgrim in 1968, becoming the 16th head coach of A&M-Commerce Men's Basketball. His first and only season was an improvement on the previous season, but not by much. His squad won just 9 games out of 27, and went just 3-11 in the LSC.

The Lions began the season with a win over LeTourneau sandwiched by two losses to Central Oklahoma. A&M-Commerce won its next two games (Austin College and McNeese State), and then lost the next four. Victories against Morningside, East Texas Baptist, and Tarleton State buoyed the Lions as they headed into conference play, but the ship quickly sank when the LSC schedule began. The Lions lost five in a row, and then five out of their last seven, including a heartbreaker against McMurry, an 84-83 loss.

Russ Cuffee led the Lions in points with 430, and Fred Williams trailed just behind with 362. Williams also led the defensive effort, collecting 200 boards in just 27 games.

Williams' efforts earned him a Second Team All-LSC nod, the only Lion to earn conference honors under Coach Andrews' brief tenure.
