Bob LaFevers
Gudger and the Lions continued to struggle in 1971, with the Lions winning just 11 games total and just 7 in LSC play.
A&M-Commerce continued to be dominated by East Central, losing to the Tigers 73-68. They managed to scrounge up wins against Midwestern State and Central Oklahoma, only to be knocked down by East Central again, this time 81-72. The Lions rollercoastered a bit through the rest of non-conference play, and then when they hit the meat of LSC competition, the wheels came off. The Lions lost four in a row to LSC opponents, won four of the next five, and then lost four in a row again. 1971 did close on a high no
te though, as the Lions won three of their final four games.
Bob LaFevers became the fourth Lion ever to score more than 500 points in a single season in 1971, scoring 548 points in 27 games. He also collected 223 boards, leading the Lions in that category too.
LaFevers earned a spot on the First Team All-LSC.
