Gudger took the Lions to the NAIA Quarterfinals for the first time in 19 years. A&M-Commerce won 25 games, and tied the record for most LSC wins. They also won their sixteenth LSC Championship.

The Lions put together several win streaks, including a twelve-game win streak and a five-game win streak. The Lions also dominated the conference tournament, winning their first game 91-66, the second one 74-71 in overtime, and their third game 71-64. After winning the LSC tournament the Lions then headed to the NAIA District Playoffs, winning against Texas Lutheran and St. Mary's. In the NAIA National Tournament A&M-Commerce took down Briar Cliff (Iowa) and Emporia State, and then lost against Texas Sou
thern in the quarterfinals.

Nate Granger set the school record for points in a season with 700 points in 1976. The Lions also set the record for most points scored in a single game with a 131-79 beat down of Paul Quinn, in which Granger scored 55 points. Granger also led in rebounds with 304.

Granger became the school?s 17th All-American, and Larry McGhee became the 18th. Both also made the First Team All-LSC and the LSC Tournament Team, where McGhee won MVP of the tournament. Don Page also made it on to the Tournament team, winning the sportsmanship award.
