Gudger's final season at the helm was another tough one for the Lions. They finished with a 9-19 record, and just 5-10 in the LSC. A&M-Commerce hobbled out of the gate, losing their first six. They did manage to win four of the next five, but entered the LSC schedule with a 4-10 record. LSC play began with a 5-3 start, but then the Lions lost their final six regular season games and the first round of the LSC tournament, a 71-61 loss to Sam Houston State.

Billy Relford led in points (373) and rebounds (179). No other stats are available for 1982.
