Third in the Lone Star Conference South
Head Coach: Sam Walker (1st Season)
Overall Record: 17-10, 7-5 LSC

First Team All-LSC
Tyrone Palmer

Honorable Mention All-LSC
Fabian Pittman

Sam Walker became the 20th head coach of A&M-Commerce Men's Basketball in 2000, taking over for his mentor Paul Peak. Walker exceled in his first season, leading the Lions to a 17-win season and a 7-5 mark in the LSC. Against non-conference opponents the Lions were especially dominant, winning 10 out the 14 games played outside of the LSC. Those winning ways transferred well to the LSC schedule, as the Lions won their first three conference games. But then the losses started stacking up, including back-to
-back losses to West Texas A&M. Even so the Lions entered the LSC tournament as the third seed, and were hopeful of a deep playoff run. Unfortunately Midwestern State was determined to get in the Lions' way, taking them down after two overtimes in a 97-95 grudge match. The loss ended the Lions season.

Tyrone Palmer was an integral part of the Lions' success, leading in scoring (537 points), three-point shooting (60 three pointers made), and blocks (17). Terrence Andrews led in rebounds with 165, and Carl Hawkins led in assists with 91. Robert Hamilton was a thief on the defensive end, compiling 54 steals.

Palmer was named to the First Team All-LSC, and Fabian Pittman snagged an Honorable Mention slot.
