Walker had one of his most successful seasons in 2004, leading the Lions to a 28-5 finish with 10 conference wins and the school?s first LSC Championship since 1997. The Lions were ascendant in non-LSC play, winning 13 out of 16 games out-of-conference. Midwestern State handed the Lions a tough 58-53 loss in their first LSC game of the season, but the Lions then assembled a six-game conference win streak. A trip to A&M-Kingsville briefly knocked the Lions off course, but they quickly rebounded by winning
their final four regular season games. The Lions finally won the LSC tournament for the first time in 27 years, and advanced to the NCAA playoffs for the first time under Coach Walker. In the NCAA Regionals A&M-Commerce advanced to the Elite Eight, losing to Tarleton State 75-70.

Jermart Miller was a determining factor in the Lions' return to the NCAA playoffs, leading the Lions in scoring (551 points), made threes (94), steals (32), and finishing second in assists (124). Chris Fantroy led in rebounds with 203, Jonathan Hopkins led in blocks with 34, and Allen Walker led in assists with 151.

Miller raked in the accolades in 2004, winning LSC Player of the Year, LSC Newcomer of the Year, and First Team All-LSC. Matthew Rager and Walker were named to the Second Team All-LSC, and Fantroy was an Honorable Mention All-LSC.
