Walker's squad finished under .500 for the first time in four years in 2007. Their final record was 14-16, 7-5 LSC. The season didn't get off to the best start with the Lions losing their first five games, and the rest of the non-conference season wasn't much better. A&M-Commerce entered LSC play with a 5-10 record. But Coach Walker was able to turn it around in the most important part of the season, leading the Lions to two separate win streaks of three games each. Several other games were incredibly clo
se, including four overtime losses. In the LSC tournament the Lions really caught fire, beating West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian before just barely losing to Central Oklahoma, 72-70.
Scooby Johnson was the first Lion in over a decade to score 600+ points in a season, raking up 621 points mainly through two-pointers and free throws. Johnson also had 44 steals, pacing the Lions in that category. Kevin Widemond led in assists with 93, and Rashad Brown led in blocks with 18. Statistics were unavailable for rebounds in 2007.
Johnson became the school's 22nd All-American in 2007. He was also named LSC Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-LSC, and All-Tournament. Widemond was named to the All-Tournament team as well.
