Coach Walker led the Lions back to success in 2008, when the Lions won 17 games and finished tied for second in the LSC with an 8-4 conference record. The non-conference schedule proved to be a little tricky to navigate, as the Lions finished just one game above .500 (9-7) out-of-division. But Walker's knowledge of and experience against LSC opponents was once again an asset, allowing the Lions to put together two separate win streaks of four games each, propelling the Lions to the top of the LSC North in
time for the LSC tournament. Unfortunately A&M-Kingsville was prepared to take on their bitter rivals in the first round, and ultimately handed the Lions an early exit with a 50-48 defeat.

Transfer DeUndrae Spraggins was one of the main reasons that the Lions were able to return to dominance in the LSC. He led the Lions in scoring with 479 points, was second in assists with 74, and led in steals with 58. Cardell Hunter was the leader in assists (114), and Rashad Brown was again the blocking king with 17 swats.

Spraggins was named LSC Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-LSC, Brad Hambrick was named LSC Freshman of the Year, and Rashad Brown was Honorable Mention All-LSC.
