Despite winning 19 games overall and 8 in the LSC, the Lions finished third in the LSC in 2009. In the early part of the season A&M-Commerce went 11-4, which included a four-game win streak and a five-game win streak. The LSC schedule also began well with a four-game win streak, but the Lions briefly stumbled against Central Oklahoma, at Northeastern State, and against Northeastern State. The Lions then traded wins and losses until the end of the regular season, ending up with the third seed in the LSC No
rth. In the first round of the tournament the Lions lost in overtime to Tarleton State 83-76.

Leading the Lions in scoring in 2009 was Brian Singleton, who totaled 372 points. Singleton also led in steals with 50. Ronnie Morgan was the only Lion who had rebounds recorded in the stat book in 2009, and he pulled down 285. Cardell Hunter dished out 118 dimes, leading in assists.

Preston Whitley was named LSC Freshman of the Year, Morgan earned a First Team All-LSC spot, and Hunter and Singleton were named Second Team All-LSC.
