Third Season (27-20-5 Overall)
LSC Semifinalists
After a slow 2-5 start to the season, the Lions rallied to win ten of their last twelve regular season contests to enter the LSC Tournament with a 12-7 record. Unfortunately, they once again fell to the eventual champion Lady Buffs by a score of 0-1, finishing the year 12-8 (6-4 in conference). Over the course of the season, the Lions pulled off three blowout wins against out of conference opponents, winning 7-0 on the road against Ozarks, 6-0 at home against Texas Lutheran, and 7-2 against Dallas Baptist
in hostile territory.
Heather Pierce, Sherri Konlande, Jennifer Jones and Laurie Donovan played the most for the Lions, with all four starting 19 games. Of the four, Donovan saw the field the most, logging 1702 minutes. Lynette Bass (9G, 7A) and Trudy Warborg (8G, 7A) led the Lions in scoring, as Bass controlled the lead in both goals and assists. In net, Catherine Cole once again shored up the Lions defense by starting 17 games. She logged 70 saves, 4 shutouts, .814 save percentage and 1.06 GAA in 1355 minutes played.
1997 would be head coach Mike Munch's final year. He finished his three-year stint at A&M-Commerce with an overall record of 27-20-5. He never turned in a losing season.
