The Lions went 22-2 overall and 12-0 in conference, winning the Lone Star Conference for the first time. The Lions defeated notable opponents such as North Texas, Angelo State, Army, New Haven, and West Texas A&M. Their two losses came against Nebraska-Omaha and Cal State-Sacramento. Paulette Pilcik was a huge part of the Lions' unprecedented success with 723 assists, 30 service aces, 109 digs, and 70 kills. She was named to the First Team All-LSC, LSC All-Academic team, American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region First Team, and AVCA All-American Second Team. Pilcik wasn't the only Lion recognized in 1986 though.
