The sophomore slumps struck the Lions again in 1991, Coach Johnson's second year at the helm. Lion volleyball finished 8-22 (3-5 LSC), the worst season A&M-Commerce would have until 1996. A&M-Commerce would have losing streaks of three, four, six, and six games, and would never win more than two games in a row. The Lions would lose in the first round of the LSC tournament.
Leslie Harris had the most kills in 1991, smacking her way to 366 kills in just 109 sets. Christy Rooney sat in second with 202 kills. Kim Walding had 817 assists after the graduation of Kristi Phillips and Kristine King. Shelley Brown (formerly McAnelley) had the second-most assists with 104. Rooney led the way in defense with 264 digs (1st) and 78 total blocks (2nd). Harris was also a defensive force with 248 digs (2nd) and 81 total blocks (1st).
Brown and Harris were both named Honorable Mention All-LSC, and Brown also earned an Honorable Mention All-LSC Academic.
