Coach Johnson had a significantly better season in 1992, leading the Lions to a 19-17 record. However, A&M-Commerce still struggled in conference competition, finishing 3-5 in the Lone Star Conference. The Lions did manage to beat eventual LSC champion Angelo State in their only meeting, and they also assembled win streaks of four and seven games. The season ended once again in a first-round loss in the LSC tournament, a heart-breaking five-set loss to Abilene Christian.
Christy Rooney was a huge part of the Lions' rebound in 1992, leading the Lions in kills (491), digs (546), and total blocks (160). Gloria Trevino had one of the best seasons a Lion has ever had on the all-time assist list, compiling 1,242 assists in just 128 sets, a 9.7 assist/set average.
Thanks to her effors, Rooney was the first Lion in four years to be named to the First Team All-LSC. Trevino and Serena Jones were both named Honorable Mention All-LSC, and Kierce Eilers-Cox earned an Honorable Mention All-LSC Academic award.
