Though the team took a step back in 2001 and dropped to a 21-13 record (7-3 LSC), Coach Blackwell led several Lions to career bests. Amy Wallace had over 500 kills, and Lauren Kitchens set a Lion record in assists. The Lions also had win streaks of five and eight games, and never lost more than three in a row. The season ended once again in the first round of the LSC tournament with a four-set loss to Eastern New Mexico.
Wallace had 549 kills to pace the Lions offensively, and Kitchens had 1,544 assists, setting an A&M-Commerce record. Christy Alvillar led the Lions with 428 digs, and Wallace had the most blocks with 102.
Due to her part on the offense, Wallace earned the school's first LSC MVP award. She also was named First Team All-LSC along with Christy Avillar. Kitchens, Wedberg, and Davina Goodman earned Honorable Mention All-LSC spots. Academic awards were earned by Kitchens (All-Academic), Jana Gray (LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll), and Lauren Ackermann (LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll).
