Head Coach: Susie Knause (12th Season) - 98-171 Overall; 4-3 LSC
Southwest Texas --> Texas State
The 82/83 season was historic for ETSU, as it was the Lone Star Conference's first year sponsoring women's basketball as an official sport. The Lions' first inter-LSC contest came against Abilene Christian on December 9, 1982, an affair that resulted in a 75-58 defeat for East Texas State. It wasn't until January 22, 1983 that the Lions achieved their first LSC win, a 52-41 victory over Angelo State. The Lions finished the year 4-3 against conference opponents, earning them a berth in the LSC Tournament.
They would unfortunately fall 87-78 to Southwest Texas in the first round of the tournament, as the Lions finished their year with a 12-13 overall record. Abilene Christian would go on to win the LSC Championship.
Ocie Taylor was the unquestioned leader on the floor for the Lions, averaging 15.9 points and 14.9 rebounds per game on 53 percent shooting from the field. Melonna Bolden was key as well, averaging 12.7 ppg and 6.3 rpg.
