The Lions once again struggled in the 87-88 season, dropping ten of their first twelve contests. ETSU finished the season with a 8-19 overall record and a 2-8 conference record. As a result, they missed the LSC Tournament for the second consecutive year. West Texas State won its second straight LSC Championship.

Alice Fortes very nearly averaged a double double for the second straight year (13.8 PPG, 9.9 RPG) while Meshell Graham once again played the role of offensive juggernaut for East Texas State (20.4 PPG, 8.9 RPG). In addition to providing support on the boards (6.2 RPG), Shanna Clayton was once again the program's top playmaker with 96 assists on the year.
