Head coach: Jim Coen (First Season) - 7-20 Overall; 5-11 LSC

Game 1-2: NE. Oklahoma Tourney
Game 3-4: ACU Classic (Abilene, Texas)
Game 8-9: @Columbus, Mississippi

The 89/90 season saw Jim Coen take over as Lions head coach, as he led the program into a year of streaks. East Texas State dropped two and won two to start the year 2-2. Their fortune ran out at that point, as ETSU dropped a whopping 11 straight, before bouncing back to win five in a row. From there, ETSU lost its next seven to finish the season 7-20 overall and 5-11 against LSC opponents. The effort was good enough to make the LSC Tournament for the first time in four years, only for the Lions to get wi
ped out 97-64 by Angelo State. West Texas State would go on to win its fourth straight LSC Championship.

Terail Walker nearly averaged a double double for the Lions with 10.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, while Charlotte Jones led the way in scoring with 410 points (15.8 ppg) and 61 steals. Bessie Sorrells once again led the Lions in assists with 83, and was one of two other Lions to average double-digit scoring (the other being Sandy Norrell).

After only one year, Coach Coen and the Lions would part ways, making him the shortest tenured coach in program history to this point.
